Goose Dream Meanings

The Ur god Amun was depicted in the form of a goose.

For the Greeks and Romans, the goose stood for vitality and fertility, leading to the term: “silly goose” for a young girl. In addition, the goose was the divine animal of Aphrodite and was sacrificed to the god of fertility. In antiquity, it was a symbol not only of wisdom, but also of marital love.

The St. Martin s Day goose is closely connected to the idea of sacrifice and mercy.

To this day, a goose appearing in a dream is seen as being connected to love, sacrifice, and fertility. In the fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk,” the goose that lays the golden eggs is the symbol of something precious, something that we long for. In Celtic myth the goose and the Swan are messengers from another world, and for that reason a goose could never be used as food in Brittany.

The goose is also an ancient symbol for the initiated.

You hear geese gabbling: watch out, someone is saying bad things about you. Calling out to a goose: avoid the company of simple-minded people. Tending a flock of geese: you are forced to take care of an unpleasant situation. Fattening a goose: don’t encourage another person’s foolish behavior.

Depth Psychology: The goose—undeservedly—is a symbol of simple- mindedness or even stupidity. Sometimes seeing a goose means that you’re being taking advantage of by your partner. Change it!
